My story

What would the world around you look like if every church in your town and every believer engaged God’s mission for the church?

Let that sink in for a moment. If we honestly look into the mirror, we know… our world would be vastly different. As we look around at the hopelessness and confusion in the world, we can see exactly what the world needs: Jesus Christ, yet more often than not, the church sits idle. This is not because the pastor or staff are not working hard enough, but because the old axiom is mostly true 20% of the people do 80% of the work.

My purpose for I Heart the Church is to encourage and challenge the mindset that the mission of the church is only for those overly religious people. Every believer is called to be a part of the mission and adventure of reconnecting humanity to a God who loves them.

I love the church with it’s good, bad and ugly… this idea that God would work in and through humanity, with our flaws, really excites me! As this blog continues to progress, my prayer is that many attenders, UnChristians and those overly religious people would learn to love the church just as much as Jesus loves His church.

Understand I am not talking about institution or buildings… I’m talking about people. We are the church and there is room for more. Your neighbors, coworkers, fellow shoppers at the grocery store and even the freckled adolescent kid behind the ticket booth at the movie theater all have a role – to fulfill the mission of the church – of course you may need to fulfill yours so that someone else can fulfill theirs.

I am the pastor of Uprising Student Ministries at Capital Christian Center in Carson City, Nevada. This stage of my life is a result of the faith journey God began in me 10 years ago when I radically came face to face with an almighty God. Since that day, I have served in many capacities of church leadership and I’m often asked, “Why serve in ‘X’ capacity?”

Because… I heart the church!

I invite you to join in on my story because your story and my story are our stories; they are meant to build up the church no matter where you may be serving. So let’s share our stories of what God is doing in and through us as we build, shape and love the church.
