[This post is part of the Becoming Traders series. You should check out: How to Live a Trader's Life]
A few days ago I asked you to watch a video called Are You a Trader.
Watching this video stirred a couple questions in me.
- Why should we become traders?
- How do I live a life of a trader?
Why should we become traders?
Almost as soon as the question is asked in my mind, I’m struck with the answer: It’s not about you, me, or Miss Agnus who sits in the third row, fourth seat from the aisle on the right in the sanctuary.
A life in the church is a life traded for a life outside the church.
On regular occasion I challenge my students to fulfill their mission (original, I know
), but fulfilling their mission isn’t just so they can live the best life possible. Someone else’s mission may be dependant on a student fulfilling theirs.
The same is true for you and I. Outside the four walls of our churches, there are people who are waiting on us to fulfill our mission so that they can begin theirs.
So why become a trader? Because the world is depending on a selfless group of people to rise up and live beyond themselves.
The single mother needs to know she has a partner within the church to equip her in raising her four children despite the dysfunction.
The jobless dad needs to know someone is praying for his determination to never fail and his faith to never waiver.
The sick, the homeless, the emotionally wrecked… all need to know there is someone fighting for them, with them.
Friends, there has never been a better time for the church to trade in our lives so that someone else might experience the goodness of an awesome God.
There is desperation on every corner and hopelessness filling every neighborhood, but we have the answer. We have something the world so desperately needs… grace, love, promise and hope.
Instead of bashing the already downtrodden, maybe we could lift them up. Instead of turning a blind eye to the realities of this earth, maybe we extend a hand and elevate people to the level we are privileged to live through Jesus.
How might your life and the world around you be different, if you traded yourself in and allowed God to work through you to rewrite someone’s destiny?
